How to Convert

12-Hour to Military Time

  • AM times: Simply remove the colon and AM. Add a leading zero if needed.

    • - 7:30 AM → 0730

    - 10:15 AM → 1015

  • PM times: Add 12 to the hour, then remove the colon and PM.

    • - 3:45 PM → 1545 (3 + 12 = 15)

    - 11:30 PM → 2330

    Military to 12-Hour

  • 0000–1159: Add colon and AM (prepend 12 for 0000)

    • - 0730 → 7:30 AM

    - 0000 → 12:00 AM

  • 1200–2359: Subtract 12 from the first two digits and add PM (keep 12 for noon)

    • - 1545 → 3:45 PM

    - 1200 → 12:00 PM

    How to Say Military Time

    Military time is spoken digit by digit:

  • 0800 = "zero eight hundred" or "oh eight hundred"
  • 1300 = "thirteen hundred"

    For PM times, just add 12 to the hour. For converting back from military time greater than 1200, subtract 12. That's it.
